About Lawmen Black Belt Academy
Lawman’s Black Belt Academy is dedicated to advancing the defensive tactics capabilities of law enforcement officers through a structured curriculum rooted in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and other effective grappling disciplines. Our goal is to equip officers with the skills, confidence, and control necessary to safely and efficiently manage resistant subjects while reducing the likelihood of injury to both officers and suspects.
Our training focuses on realistic, practical techniques that provide officers with effective solutions to the most common challenges encountered during physical encounters with resistant subjects. Every course emphasizes safety, control, and professionalism, ensuring that techniques are both tactically sound and appropriate within modern use of force standards.
- OUR PROGRAMS
The academy will offer two primary tiers of training:
Officer Skills Courses
Officer Skills Courses are designed for individual officers who want to improve their ability to safely and effectively control resistant subjects. This course focuses on practical techniques that officers can apply immediately in real world encounters.
Instructor Development Course
Consulting Services
Lawman’s Black Belt Academy also offers consulting services for agencies seeking to strengthen or modernize their defensive tactics programs.
Host a Course
Lawman’s Black Belt Academy partners with law enforcement agencies and training organizations to host courses at their facilities. Hosting a course allows agencies to provide quality defensive tactics training to their personnel while minimizing travel costs and increasing access to training.

Single-Officer Ground Control Seminar
This course focuses on controlling a resisting subject while on the ground. Training will address common real-world scenarios, including managing a subject on their back and transitioning control when a subject rolls to their belly.
Students will learn a streamlined, systematic approach to ground control that emphasizes efficiency, positional dominance, and the use of minimal necessary force. Techniques are designed to be practical, legally defensible, and immediately applicable in the field.
